What a fantastic turn out! Thank you to everyone who joined in on the Cary Rally Fun Day for 2010. We will upload more details tomorrow but for now - here are the ANSWERS which were in high demand!
EVENT REVIEW
The first annual My Ormeau Car Rally Fun Day was a fantastic day enjoyed by hundreds of people. We had a broad mix of competitors and visitors on the day which created an enjoyable atmosphere. The weather was on our side (thankfully) and that was undoubtedly a factor that drew such a large crowd.
We had 76 rally competitors with 72 completing within 1.5-2 hours. As the registration kicked off there were several lines as everyone eagerly waited for the registration kit, competitor bag, and clues. Each child between the age of 3-12 was given the bonus chance to go into the draw to win Junior competitor prizes, random lucky draw goodies and trophies. 99 children submitted their answer slips for a chance to win.
A big thank you to all of the stall holders who so eagerly joined us on the day. We had support from Lions Club Ormeau who ran the delicious sausage sizzle and sold much needed refreshments. The local coffee cart vendor supplied a much needed caffeine fix to those who objected to being up so early on a Sunday morning. Norfolk Village State School delivered some sweet delights with a cake stall and mouth watering nachos stand. 02Community had yummy popcorn which I am sure we bought shares in as 6 half-eaten packets came home with us!
Our variety of stall holders included Ormeau Bulldogs Junior AFL, Rivermount College, PartyLite Candles, Renew Yourself, Livingstone College, Ormeau External Cleaning, Car Care Gold Coast, Jamie Lancova Massage Therapy, Little Things Imagery, Burt Van Meran, United Home Services, and a kids toy market stall.
Kids entertainment was assured thanks to NVSS who ran a huge superslide and jumping castle, Shape Creators who helped My Ormeau run free old fashioned kids races (egg and spoon, sack races and more), and LJ Hooker with a kids face painter.
Brett Jennings was our gracious and entertaining MC for the day as he directed, commentated and amused. We had two special guests earlier in the day with Margaret Keech and Donna Gates both popping in to say hello. Chris Capra, principal of NVSS and Ross Wallace, principal of Ormeau Woods High school also dropped by to check out the action.
The whole objective of this event was to create community spirit and provide some affordable fun and entertainment in these tight economic times. One happy competitor mentioned that they had just moved from Sydney and were contemplating where to settle down at on the Gold Coast. Ormeau is now at the top of their list following this community event which became a great way to get to know how friendly the locals are.
We have had nothing but positive feedback following this event and hope everyone will join us again in the years to follow.

Congratulations to all of our lucky (and talented?) winners - keep honing those great navigational skills, next years course is sure to be even more mind-boggling and fun-filled.
