From Dee Handyside:
I live in Ormeau and during my treatments for aggressive cancer, I composed and recorded an album…here in ormeau! It is multi-genre (orchestral rock, jazz, pop, country etc.) and is now the endorsed fundraising album for the australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF).
On top of that, it is now in all ABC shops throughout Australia and on iTunes/Amazon etc.
On 1st February the fundraising single from the album was launched. It is pop/motown and called ‘Thank You Friends’. Again written and recorded in Ormeau. 100% of this song goes to ACRF. We even had the official music video filmed and made at Gold Coast TAFE Coomera Campus by the students there!
Furthermore, last week, the album and single was mentioned in the Australian Parliament!
Here is the link to the video…please ensure that you read the u-tube blurb below it and please watch through to the credits regarding the ladies in it.

Please note that due to the State Elections called for 24 March 2012 the Gold Coast City Council elections have been moved forward to the 28 April 2012.
31 March 2012 28 April 2012 marks the date for the next regional elections which will reveal the new Gold Coast City council division representatives as well as our new Mayor.
In preparation for these pending elections it is important to ensure your registration details are current, especially if you have moved recently, and to note which division you are in.
For all Ormeau residents you are Division 1 though if you are in Pimpama make sure you check out the map to decide if you fall into Division 1 or 3. With new boundaries set in place as a result of the rapid growth in the Northern Growth Corridor there have been some alterations. You can view the zone maps here in PDF:
As we near election day we will post voting booth information – locations, times and candidates.
On behalf of Ormeau and the Northern Gold Coast region we would like to take a moment to thank Councillor Donna Gates for all of her hard work during her current term as Division 1 representative. It is a huge job taking on the largest and fastest growing region on the Gold Coast and her hard work is easily visible throughout the northern suburbs – as is her uncanny ability to put in personal appearances at just about every community, sporting and school group event in the district.
The Ormeau Community & Youth Centre is a long-awaited addition to our thriving community. We are certain many locals will embrace the new activities and the opportunities it will bring. The Community centre will be located on Pascoe Road adjacent to the Norfolk Village Shopping Centre and Tavern.
Features will include a youth recreation area (inside and outside), meeting, training and office rooms, gym and dance studio spaces as well as a children’s playgroup area which will include a fenced outdoor play space. This new centre will be managed by Gold Coast City Council and their focus will be on offering services and activities that are currently lacking in our region.
Construction is due to begin in March 2012 as the $5.5 million project gets under way.
You can read more about it here on the GCCC website.

Save the date!
The annual My Ormeau Car Rally is on again – Sunday 27th May with a 9am start. This year there has been a slight change of venue due to increasing numbers and we are being generously hosted by Heritage Park Pimpama – 193 Rifle Range Road, Pimpama (Google Map Location Here).
It is only a 5 minute commute from Ormeau and the Rally course itself will lead through Ormeau as usual.
This year there will be a slightly new format with more spots to get out and discover clues. A great way to test out your bribery skills as you try to get other contestants to share their knowledge and clues!
As usual there will be lots of fun for the whole family, many great prizes and trophies up for grabs and a delicious BBQ lunch upon your return.
If you are keen to sponsor the event for 2012 please let us know – all trophy spots are first in, best dressed.
More details will be announced as the event nears.
